Supporting some killer funk

Saturday, November 30th, 2013

freekbassI just backed a Kickstarter project put together by Cincinnati artist Freekbass.  I’ve enjoyed his funky chops since the mid-90s when he played in a band called SHAG. Seeing them was a big ingredient in the creation of the DD69 musical flavor.

There are a few days left on his campaign, so if you want to support the creation of independent, quality, funky music, go lend your support.

Whoa dude!

whoa dude

Excellent!

Wow. It’s October already, and it feels like we stepped into a time machine and blazed form the beginning of the year to right now. Where did all that time go? It’s been an eventful year for all of us in DD69. We’ve had wonderful things happen along with some things that have been tough. However, as always we are grateful for the music in our lives and are finding our way back to some music making. We’re considering an online EP of ska-flavored tunes, including several unreleased tracks as well as a few remixes. It’s possible that (barring my participation in more endurance events this year) we could have that dialed in before the end of the year. It might even help to jump-start work on our 5th album. So, please stay tuned as we get rolling again. Thanks to everyone who has discovered our music and connected with us in one way or another. There’s more to come…

Happy New Year!

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

Wow, another year behind us. Time sure feels like it’s going by fast these days.

We here at DD69 HQ are looking forward to another year of making music, and hopefully finding more folks to share it with. We’re planning to release our fourth studio album (currently untitled, although Mike is pushing hard for “Funk in the Trunk”… wait a minute, that sounds weird… meh, nevermind) in June of this year.

Mike, his brother Maurice, and I are also finishing up the tracking for a 2012 release from our old band Foonspeeders. The album, titled “Open Your Mouth” should be completed in the next couple months and available shortly thereafter.

So here’s to the possibilities that another trip around the sun has to offer.  Salud!

The DD69 Facebook page

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Since we had to cancel studio night tonight because Mike’s got a cold, I thought that I should do something productive. So I created a Facebook page for the band (insert sound of lonely party horn honking here).

DD69 has had a fan page for some time, but with Bandcamp’s new Facebook tab, I figured, “why wouldn’t we?”. It’s yet another place to go and find info about the band, and since it seems like everyone in the known universe (with a few notable exceptions) has a FB page… well we want everyone in the known universe to dig our music, man.

So if you like us, well then “like us”. There’s a button for that somewhere around here. There’s a button for almost everything around here – that could be a problem.

“Keep It Up” featured as bumper music for the Gameops.com podcast

Keep it up, Gameops

We’re excited that the fine folks at Gameops.com have asked us to provide some “bumper” music for their podcast.  Bumper music is typically used at the beginning or end of a program, although sometimes it’s used elsewhere (before or after going to commercials, for example).

Gameops.com is the “authoritative voice in game operations and the distributor of choice for sports premiums and promotions for hundreds of teams and event planners”. We’ve worked with them before, but this is the first time we’re providing some audio.

You can check out the podcast, complete with tasty intro music, here.
