It was fun while it lasted

Friday, November 4th, 2011

We recently got word that Cleveland’s ESPN radio station WKNR has had some schedule/show changes, and as a result they’re no longer able to use our “Afternoon R & R” theme song. It was great to hear our collaboration with Skinny Moo’s Jay Goodman every weekday on the radio, that’s for sure.

We just wanted to say thanks to the fine folks at the station, particularly on-air personalities Kenny Roda and Mike Reghi, for giving us the opportunity. Hopefully we’ll be able to work with them again in the future.

You can still find the theme songs we provided on our music pages if you find yourself getting wistful and thinking about the good old days…

Free downloads: Afternoon R&R Themes

"You can only hope to hear me on your radio..."

We’ve posted both the regular and extended versions of the theme song for ESPN Cleveland radio’s drive-time sports talk show “Afternoon R & R“. Our thanks to the folks at WKNR 850 AM, especially to hosts Mike Reghi and Kenny Roda.

As we’ve detailed several times before, the theme song is based on the DD69 track “It’s Alive” (released on the album Wigs & Liquor). We collaborated with Jay Goodman of Skinny Moo to create a new melody and lyrics to lay over the music, and Kenny Roda threw his hat into the ring by adding some of the extended version lyrics.

Thanks to everyone involved – we’re always excited about collaborating and getting our music to a wider audience.

You can download the theme songs for free here.

Make it longer, they said

It’s true, as well as entertaining.

The folks at WKNR (ESPN Cleveland) have told us that the theme song for their drive-time sports talk show “Afternoon R & R” with Kenny Roda and Mike Reghi is crazy popular with the listeners. The theme song is an edit of “It’s Alive”, which is from our current record “Wigs & Liquor“, with different lyrics and vocals contributed by Jay Goodman of Skinny Moo.

It makes us feel good that people are digging the song – probably no better feeling.  Except when people ask you for moar.

We’ve been asked to make an extended version of the theme, with lyrics contributed by Kenny Roda himself. After some schedule-jockeying, I was able to extend the edit of the tune and Jay was finally able to come in and put down vocals (he is pictured above singing in some kind of soulful fashion – allegedly).

I’m looking forward to putting the final mix of the longer version together. Hopefully people will find DD69 music as a result, and get into some of our other tunes. That would probably make us feel best of all.

The Afternoon R&R Theme

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

We mentioned our recent work on the theme song for the  ESPN Cleveland Radio WKNR show “Afternoon R & R” with Kenny Roda and Michael Reghi.

After some final tweaking (which included the addition of some cool radio FX and a brief snippet of the old “Kenny Roda Show” theme at the top) we finally delivered it. It’s pretty cool to hear it every weekday at 3PM on WKNR.

To Kenny, Reg, and everyone at WKNR: thanks for the opportunity! We can’t wait to cut the video together…

Tune in to WKNR on Monday

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Mike and I, along with Skinny Moo‘s Jay Goodman (@skinnymoojay), will join Kenny Roda and Michael Reghi (@ReghiandRoda) on ESPN Cleveland radio Monday 10/4 at 5:00PM to premiere the new “Afternoon R&R” theme song.

The song is based on a drunkdude69 song called “It’s Alive”, which is on our upcoming release Wigs & Liquor. Jay collaborated with us to create new lyrics and a new melody custom-written for the show, and we dressed it up with some entertaining samples of Roda and Reghi doing their thing on-air.

No official release date is set yet for Wigs (we’re in the design and manufacturing process), but it should be available for ordering and download before the end of the year. Stop back again for updates.
